Groundscapes Express, Inc. has been providing innovative, environmentally sound, erosion control solutions since 1998. We were the first company in New England to extensively use compost products for erosion control and stormwater management, helping to pioneer these new techniques. Our techniques and materials are adaptable to a wide variety of sites; we have done work on a wide variety of sites throughout the region, including road projects, golf course, and residential developments.
From years of hands-on experience, we have learned what works and what doesn’t, and we continually refine our methods to produce the best results. Early on, we set up our own test slopes. Utilizing simulated rainfall and a variety of compost blends, we tested for erosion control effectiveness and for sediment retention. Further testing is being planned, in cooperation with other organizations, to develop information on other parameters, such as contaminant removal.
Our success stems, in part, from the control we have over the materials we use. We make our own quality compost blends from consistent supplies of feed stocks. And, we test our materials more frequently to monitor quality.
John Engwer, the owner and driving force behind Groundscapes Express and its sister operations, has infused these businesses with an ethic of environmental responsibility. For example, Groundscapes avoids using synthetic encapsulation materials, our compost utilizes locally produced source materials, and the very design of the compost containment structures have clear and proven benefits to the environment. John has assembled a team of people who share these values, and who are also committed to innovation and quality.
