So what is a guild, anyway? A guild can be many things. A craftsmen guild is a group of highly skilled professionals who share similar resources, interests, and work towards accomplishing a single purpose, i.e. film maker’s guild.
Traditionally, guilds were a lifetime progression starting from apprentice to craftsman, journeyman, and eventually to widely-recognized master and grandmaster.
In nature, a guild is the smallest unit of diverse, complex, dynamic community of plants, animals, insects and microorganisms at varying stages of their development, that inhabit a specific environment and share its resources of sun light, water, climate, soil, and nutrients.
In escence a guild is a tiny ecosystem.
In our attempts to build and nurture sustainable communities we can learn valuable lessons from ecosystems because ecosystems are in fact sustainable communities of plants, animals and micro-organisms.
Nature is the Grand Master and we are ……………Nature’s Apprentice.
